Coutinho's Late Goal Gives IHCC Win in Opener

Lexington, MO -- A goal by sophomore Joao Coutinho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) late in the second half was the only score of the game as the Indian Hills men's soccer team opened its 2011 season with a 1-0 victory against Wentworth Military Academy on Saturday.

It took until the game's 88th minute before the Warriors broke through with the only tally of the game, Coutinho scoring off an assist from freshman Brady Anderson (Albia).

Meanwhile, IHCC sophomore keeper Marcus Filgueiras (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) kept the hosts off the scoreboard with five saves to earn the shutout.

Indian Hills travels to Rosemount, Minnesota this weekend for the Minnesota Kickoff Classic. The Warriors will play three games in as many days, starting with a contest against Bismarck State College from North Dakota on Friday. They will battle Northwest Kansas Tech on Saturday and Oakton (IL) CC on Sunday.

The home opener for the Warriors will be against Scott CC on September 10.
