IHCC Puts Five on All-Region Team

Ottumwa -- A total of five Indian Hills Community College men's soccer players were named to the All-Region XI teams announced by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.

IHCC players named to the all-league team were first-team selection Ryan Culbertson, a sophomore from Fort Madison; second-team choice Cheyne Reiter, a freshman from LaPorte City; and freshmen Gustavo Scorzelli, Damian Sheerin and Ben Smiley, all honorable mention picks.

Reiter led the Warriors in goals this season with seven. Sheerin, from West Point, had four goals; Scorzelli, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, led in assists with four; and Smiley, from Norwalk, was the number one goalkeeper for IHCC this fall.

Other goal scorers for the Warriors were freshman Isidore Ekukanjuh, from Ottumwa, with three; freshman Peter Grossenkemper, from Fort Madison, with two; and Culbertson, freshman Noel Anthony from Des Moines, and freshman Pedro Jurno, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, all with one goal each.

First-year head coach Kirk Artist said the IHCC program, which was in its third year this fall, is making progress. "We came into the preseason excited to get a new start and the players continued to work hard every minute of every practice," said Artist. "Every person contributed to the team, whether they played 90 minutes or 10 minutes in a game. The 20 men molded together, so that by the end of the season we were playing our best soccer. This season, this group of men set records and showed the most passion for playing the game of soccer that I have seen in a group of individuals."

Artist added, "If these individuals continue to develop throughout the offseason, we will be able to take another step forward next season."
